Home About Me Services and Fees What is a Doula?

I love being a doula.  I began about 16 years ago when some friends started asking me to help them with their births due to my experience as a mom and knowing that I have been studying birth for nearly 24 years as an informal student and a little more than 8 years of that on a more formal basis.  I love everything about pregnancy and birth.  It is miraculous and amazing and no matter how many births I am around, it never ceases to astound me and take my breath away.  I have attended about 43 births as an active participant; some of them as a midwife apprentice instead of doula.

I am Corinne and I am a mother of 12 and grandmother of 6 and personally experienced in almost every kind of birth including:

bulletnatural
bulletepidural
bulletinduced
bullethomebirth
bullethospital birth
bulletOB

bulletI have not personally had a breech baby or a Cesarean birth.

I am a member of the Utah Doula Association (UDA www.utahdoulas.org) as well as Doulas of North America (DONA www.dona.org).  I participate in conferences and continuing education credits regularly and maintain an ongoing study schedule.  I am certified in CPR as well as Neonatal Resuscitation.  I also co-moderate the "Ask the Midwife" forum at http://www.momys.com

 Dear Corinne:

I wanted to write a letter and express my gratitude for your involvement in the delivery of my son, Griffin. Having you there through the pregnancy and delivery helped create a wonderful sense of ease and security and your advocacy was invaluable.

You asked me to provide you with feedback regarding how I felt having a doula as a partner in our birth. As a layman I cannot give feedback per say but I can tell that the steps you helped us take and decisions that we were able to make well in advance of the delivery culminated in what I can only describe as a nearly perfect birth experience.

Having a carefully thought out birth plan in place was so important and certainly would not have been as effective without your input and experience. Having the Doctor and nurses know exactly what we needed and desired without having to work to communicate throughout the process was wonderful and having you there to help reinforce those desires was great!

Your advocacy and support in the delivery room was amazing. You gave me the freedom to give all of my energy and attention to Jamie and Griffin. With you there I was able to be a better husband and father. As you know I was a little concerned in the beginning that I would be turning my responsibilities over to you and was worried that my involvement would be diminished. This was so dramatically not the case. You empowered me to be exactly what Jamie needed me to be and I am so grateful to you!

Your experience and availability in the hours and days after the birth were as important to us as it was in the months prior. Having you a phone call away gave Jamie a great deal of security and I very much appreciate you.

Overall our experience was wonderful. Thank you again for your professionalism and sincere concern for my wife and child and for myself. Your involvement was invaluable Corinne and I hope to have you by my side for the birth of our next baby!

Sincerely,

Michael Mutch
